Definition | The quantity with standard name permafrost_active_layer_thickness is the thickness of the layer of the ground that is subject to annual thawing and freezing in areas underlain by permafrost. "Thickness" means the vertical extent of a layer. Permafrost is soil or rock that has remained at a temperature at or below zero degrees Celsius throughout the seasonal cycle for two or more years. | ||
