| Definition | 'Upward' indicates a vector component which is positive when directed upward (negative downward). The sea ice basal heat flux is the vertical heat flux (apart from radiation i.e. 'diffusive') in sea water at the base of the sea ice. In accordance with common usage in geophysical disciplines, 'flux' implies per unit area, called 'flux density' in physics. | |
