Definition | This group contains parameter codes that relate to the rate of change of quantity of any chemical species or biological entity. Rates mey be the result of biological (e.g. production), chemical (e.g. photochemical degradation) or biogeochemical (e.g. particulate phase metal uptake rate) processes. The current (May 2003) BODC Parameter Dictionary includes the following types of rate: Primary production ( 14 C uptake rate) Photosynthesis kinetics (P:I experiments) New/regenerated ( 15 N) production Calcification Nitrification Nutrient uptake rates Bacterial production, including thymidine/leucine uptake Metal uptake rates Egg production rates Bacterial and phytoplankton grazing rates Food clearance rates Chemical photoproduction and degradation rates DOC production/uptake DMS/DMSP/DMSO dynamics Excretion and faecal pellet production rates Oxygen/DIC production/respiration Hydrolysis rates Growth efficiency/rates Sulphate reduction rates Some experimental condition parameters, such as incubation temperatures and durations, are also included. Note that this APG has been given 'priority' status to enable modellers to easily ascertain the extent of rate variable availability. Rate parameters are included in this APG in preference to any other APG that might seem appropriate. | ||
