Definition | A fully automated passive acoustic monitoring receiver used to detect trains of echo-location sounds and clicks produced by marine mammals, such as porpoises, dolphins and other toothed whales. This data can be used for monitoring cetacean population and behaviour. The C-POD uses an omni-directional 20-160 kHz hydrophone to detect cetacean clicks. The C-POD app (cpod.exe) carries out objective automated data analysis (KERNO classifier) to find and classify click trains in the data. It also provides fast display and export of data and enables users to change C-POD settings. C-PODs are supplied with two 8 Gb removable SD cards for data storage and can operate in water depths up to 100 metres. Using D-cell batteries, the C-POD can operate for approximately 200-212 days. |
