Definition | A triple port, real-time probe part of the AML Oceanographic X Series, a family of oceanographic instruments supporting field-swappable sensors. The Smart X CTD probe is fitted with the CT Xchange conductivity and temperature sensor and the P Xchange pressure sensor, both manufactured by AML Oceanographic. The instrument is designed for Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) and Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) deployments. The CT Xchange sensor has a conductivity range of 0 - 90 mS/cm, and a temperature range of -5 and 45 degC. The pressure range of the P Xchange sensor varies according to the chosen configuration, with various options between 50 - 6000 dbar. The Smart X probe has a depth rating of either 500 m or 6000 m, depending on the sensor cage material (carbon fibre, copper or titanium) and the housing material (acetal or titanium). The Smart X CTD has the capability of being converted to a Sound Velocity Profiler (SVP) by switching sensor heads. |
