Definition | University of Texas Institute of Geophysics (UTIG) heat flow probe measures temperature at 12 thermistors evenly distributed through 4m vertical length, in 3 outrigger bows thermally isolated from a rigid strength member which is let fall into the sediment. The bows are offset 120 degrees around the strength member circumference, to limit the extent of sediment disturbance. An extra thermistor within the weightstand above measures sea water temperature. |
