Definition | Construction is a 50 cm diameter cylindrical sampler sent to depth with the cylinder net (0.25 mm mesh) closed and upside down (cod-end facing upward). A messenger releases the bottom margin of cylinder allowing it to drop open (115 cm length) and at the same time closing half circle doors. A second messenger releases the first support bridle and the sampler turns right side up. Sampler collects about 250 litres of water [Wiebe and Benfield 2003 Plate 11 A]. |
