| Definition | A 3D-printed device for measuring Secchi depth (water transparency) and water clarity (based on the Forel-Ule (FU) colour scale) in lakes, estuaries and near-shore environments to a depth of 20 m. The device consists of a 20 m tape measure held within a case, attached to a small Secchi disk (12.5 cm diameter) and a weight. The disk can be wound in and out using a bobbin and handle. The body of the device features an FU colour scale sticker, a finger strap and lanyard. The FU colour sticker is based on an FU to RGB (red, green, blue) conversion (Wernand et al., 2013). These RGBs were converted to a CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) scale, required for colour printing. Designed for use with a mobile phone application for citizen science data entry. | ||
