Definition | A precipitation monitor designed to detect the beginning and end time of precipitation. This instrument outputs precipitation status (yes/no). The output of the precipitation status/event occurs galvanically isolated via a relay and an optocoupler. The measuring principle of an optical/infrared photo sensor is used. The relay signalizes the start and end of the precipitation period as the recorded events (raindrops, hailstones, etc.) are compared with the set threshold value (number of events) within a 50 second timeframe. On reaching the threshold value the relay is switched. The reset of the relay occurs when no more events are detected after a defined delay, and the precipitation period is considered to be over. The optocoupler signalizes each event, as soon as a particle has been acquired by the light barrier. The acquisition of signalizing is carried out without filtering and without delay. This instrument has a collection area of 25 square centimetres; a contact load of 230 V AC/DC, 4 A maximum; and a cable gland electrical connection. Precipitation events are measured to a drop size > 0.2 mm. | ||
