Definition | An automated flow through analyser for total alkalinity in seawater. Used for ocean acidification and carbonate chemistry research, monitoring of biological processes, and aquaculture monitoring. It can be used for continuous monitoring during surface water applications as well as for discrete water sample measurements. It can be integrated into existing systems on Voluntary Observing Ships (VOS) such as FerryBoxes. Seawater is acidified by injection of hydrochloric acid (HCl). After acidification the generated CO2 is removed by a TOUGH membrane based degassing unit, resulting in an open cell titration. The subsequent pH determination is carried out by indicator dye (Bromocresol Green) and VIS absorption spectrometry. Together with salinity and temperature, the resulting pH is used for the calculation of total alkalinity. Measurement cycles of less than 10 mins. Low sample (<50 ml) and reagent (100 uL) consumption. Operating temperature range from +5 - +30 degC. Salinity range from 20 - 37 PSU. Measuring range from 400 umol/kg (dynamic) to 2000 umol/kg (standard). Resolution of 0.1 umol/kg. Accuracy +/- 5 umol/kg, precision +/- 2 umol/kg. | ||
