Definition | A particular kind of horizontal tow where the net samples the upper ocean layer close to the surface and not including the air above the water. Once deployed, the gear is towed horizontally at one depth. Examples of gears deployed that way include WP-2, Hensen net, Bongo net, and other non-opening closing nets (Wiebe and Benfield 2003, Plates 1 and 2). | |
