Definition | The sample is collected between a deeper depth and the surface from a stationary platform; the net is typically lowered to depth and samples on the way up while the gear is being hauled back to the surface. Vertical tows collect vertically integrated samples. No closing mechanism is used. Examples of gears that can be deployed that way include WP-2, Hensen net, Bongo net, and other non-opening closing nets (Wiebe and Benfield 2003, Plates 1 and 2). | |
