| Definition | A conductivity, temperature and pressure sensor designed for use on gliders and autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). It can be used to derive salinity, density and sound velocity and is optimised for turbulence measurements and passive acoustic monitoring due to its silent operation (non-pumped). Conductivity is measured with an inductive sensor, suitable for deployment in marine, estuarine, or fresh water. There are no exposed contacts, which increases robustness, avoids susceptibility to surface contamination, and allows it to be frozen into ice without damage. The temperature sensor is built and calibrated in-house using an aged thermistor. Pressure is measured with a piezoresistive transducer built with a nickel-based superalloy diaphragm to avoid corrosion. Additional sensors such as Optical Dissolved Oxygen (ODO), Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR), Radiometer, Turbidity, Backscatter, Chlorophyll a, Fluorescence, and pH are supported. The RBRlegato4 is designed to fit into a standard 2 x 7 inch sensor bay and is rated to 1250m (1250dbar). Pressure accuracy is 0.01% of the full-scale rating and resolution is 0.001%. The conductivity range is 0-85 mS/cm with an accuracy of +/- 0.003 mS/cm and resolution of <0.0001 mS/cm. The temperature channel is calibrated an accuracy of +/- 0.002 degC (ITS-90) over the range -5 to +35 degC. Extended range calibrations are available. | ||
