Definition | The Agilent 8800 is a triple quadrupole inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer. It contains two quadrupole mass spectrometers (MS/MS) in tandem which are separated by the octopole reaction system 3 (ORS3) collision cell which uses an octopole ion guide. The first quadrupole prevents all off-mass ions from entering the cell, ensuring consistent and controlled interference removal in reaction mode. The instrument in reaction mode can use either On-Mass Mode, where reactive interferences are removed to allow an unreactive analyte to be measured at its original mass; or Mass-Shift Mode, where the reactive analyte is moved to a new mass free from the original interference. The MS/MS enables low level analysis of difficult elements such as S, P and Cl, and provides an abundance sensitivity of <10^-10. | ||
