Definition | The URI-GSO IES is a 12 kHz acoustic echo sounder for use on ocean-bottom moored platforms. It can be fitted with an optional Paroscientific pressure and/or temperature sensor and an optional Aanderaa current sensor, deployed up to 50 metres above the instrument. It measures the time taken for an acoustic pulse to travel from the instrument on the seafloor to the sea surface and return, and is suitable for use in depths ranging from 500 to 6700 metres.
