Definition | A CTD unit designed for open ocean applications down to depths of 6000m. The probe was an anodised aluminium tube with a steel cage at one end protecting the temperature and conductivity sensors and a urethane cap at the other to protect the pressure sensor diaphragm. Conductivity cell was a Pyrex tube with four electrodes in an H configuration to allow free circulation of seawater. The thermometer was a fine copper wire enclosed in an oil-filled stainless steel capilliary. The pressure transducer was a 4-arm strain gauge bridge. | ||
