Definition | A plankton net composing of a rigid 2 m diameter ring frame mounted to a nylon gauze conical net. It is designed for sampling of larval herring and other similar species between 2 and 3 cm in length. The design was used for the sampling of fish larvae during the North Sea International Bottom Survey Trawl in 1977 (first quarter). Additional features include a codend bucket, a pair of 10 m bridles for towing, a depressor (approximately 25 kg or more) with 3 m bridles, a flowmeter for filtered volume determination and a depth gauge for monitoring net depth. The net iteself is 13m long and of 1.6 mm pore. In the last metre of net, a 500 um net is inserted. The net is designed for oblique haul profiles at a maximum tow depth of 100 m. | ||
