| Definition | An autonomous profiling float with electromagnetic sensors that directly measures water motion through induced electromagnetic currents. The float can be deployed from aircraft using a parachute and can be programmed for surface avoidance during extreme weather events. It has a carbon fibre hull rated to 2000 m and an Iridium Circuit Switch/RUDICS telemetry system as standard. It is also typically fitted with a Sea-Bird SBE 41CP CTD, a WET Labs FLbb (CD) fluorometer, an SBE Float Deep SeaFET pH sensor, and either an Aanderaa 4430 or a RINKO II ARO-FT dissolved oxygen sensor. There are options for custom sensor integration or for Iridium Short Burst Data (SBD) telemetry. Additional features such as ice avoidance can be included dependent on the float configuration. | ||
