| Definition | A velocity is a vector quantity. "y" indicates a vector component along the grid y-axis, positive with increasing y. Bolus velocity in an ocean model means the velocity due to a scheme representing eddy-induced effects which are not resolved on the grid scale of the model. bolus_sea_water_y_velocity is used in some parameterisations of lateral diffusion in the ocean. | ||
