Definition | In accordance with common usage in geophysical disciplines, "flux" implies per unit area, called "flux density" in physics. "Upward" indicates a vector component which is positive when directed upward (negative downward). "Grounded ice sheet" indicates where the ice sheet rests over bedrock and is thus grounded. It excludes ice-caps, glaciers and floating ice shelves. The quantity with standard name upward_heat_flux_at_base_of_grounded_ice_sheet is the upward heat flux at the interface between the ice and bedrock. It does not include any heat flux from the ocean into an ice shelf. | ||
