It originated from the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS), and was renamed the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) in 1962. It became part of the Natural Environmental Research Council (NERC) in 1967. It is based in Cambridge, UK and operates research centres in the Antarctic, South Georgia and Arctic, research ships, research aircraft and various specialised vehicles and equipment. | ||
