| Definition | The Dilution of Precision (DOP) or Geometric Dilution of Precision (GDOP) is the coefficient of the uncertainty which relates the uncertainties in radial and velocity vectors. Originally used in satellite navigation but here adapted to the geometry of radial sites. It is a key index to optimize the configuration and to assess the positioning precision. First defined in Chapman et al, (1997) On the accuracy of HF radar surface current measurements: Intercomparisons with ship-based sensors. Journal of Geophysical Research Atmospheres 1021(C8):18737-18748. | ||
